Regulatory Challenges Mount for Binance.US: North Dakota Revokes License and More States Take Action

The regulatory challenges facing the US arm of crypto exchange Binance have reached a critical point, with several states taking actions against the exchange. Last year, enforcement proceedings against Binance and its founder resulted in significant repercussions, and now the troubles have extended to the United States.

Recently, the North Dakota Department of Financial Institutions revoked Binance.US’s money transmitter license, citing non-compliance with local regulations and violating the state’s money transmitter laws. This move comes as another blow to the exchange, which is already facing operational suspensions and bans in multiple states.

The commissioner of the North Dakota DFI highlighted the conviction of Binance’s founder, Changpeng “CZ” Zhao, for anti-money laundering violations as a key factor in the decision to restrict the exchange’s operations. Binance.US has updated its list of unsupported countries to include North Dakota, along with several other states where it is facing regulatory scrutiny.

From Florida to Alaska, Oregon, Maine, and North Carolina, Binance.US is battling bans and restrictions across multiple regions. The Florida Office of Financial Regulation initiated regulatory actions against the exchange, citing immediate danger to the public and leveraging Zhao’s conviction as justification for an emergency suspension.

The ability of Binance.US to navigate these mounting regulatory challenges will be crucial in determining its future in the United States. The exchange’s reputation is already fragile, and its response to these issues will be closely watched by both regulators and the crypto community.
