CCP Games Project Awakening: A Next-Generation Blockchain Game in the Eve Online Universe
CCP Games, the studio behind the popular Eve Online, is gearing up for multiple playtests of their next-generation blockchain game, Project Awakening. The game is set within the Eve Online universe and promises to offer a unique single-shard survival experience.
The upcoming playtests, known as Phase III, will kick off on May 21 with around 5,000 participants testing a level of the game for six weeks. CCP Games CEO Hilmar Veigar Pétursson emphasized that Project Awakening is designed to empower players, focusing on freedom, consequence, and mastery within a living universe that evolves based on player actions.
The game is set in a dark expanse of space where civilization has decayed, and players must navigate a hostile cosmos, fighting to survive and rebuild a broken world. Pétursson highlighted the game’s unique setting around three spinning black holes, a complex mathematical phenomenon that the team has been working on with astrophysicists.
Project Awakening will feature graphically rich visuals, with CCP Games gradually introducing its own assets to give the game a unique identity. The game is being built on the Carbon Development Platform and MUD by Lattice, offering players the ability to build and collaborate within the game environment using blockchain technology.
In addition to Project Awakening, CCP Games is also working on other projects, including Eve Galaxy Conquest, a mobile 4X strategy game, and Eve Vanguard, a sci-fi sandbox extraction FPS set in the Eve Universe. The studio is committed to engaging with the community and allowing players to modify and extend the games they love.
With the integration of blockchain technology, CCP Games aims to create a creator-oriented game platform that enables players to make a career out of creating content within games. The studio’s partnership with Lattice and Ethereum allows for innovative solutions in world-building and scalability, paving the way for a new era of player-driven gaming experiences.
