Departure of SEC’s Crypto Asset and Cyber Unit Head David Hirsch after Nearly Nine Years

The head of the United States Securities and Exchange Commission’s Crypto Asset and Cyber Unit in the Division of Enforcement has announced his departure after nearly nine years of service. David Hirsch took to LinkedIn to share the news, expressing pride in the work done by the team he led.

Hirsch did not disclose his future plans but mentioned that he would share more details after taking a break. Prior to his time at the SEC, he was a legal advisory board member at the NYU Center for Cybersecurity.

The SEC’s role in the crypto space has been pivotal, especially as the industry gains more attention in the lead-up to the presidential elections. The agency has faced pressure from lawmakers regarding the approval of spot Ethereum exchange-traded funds, and its Chair, Gary Gensler, has been a controversial figure among crypto advocates.

In addition to Hirsch’s departure, former SEC lawyer Ladan Stewart, known for handling high-profile cases against Ripple and Coinbase, has also left the enforcement division after eight years. Stewart has joined the law firm White & Case LLP as a partner.

As the crypto industry continues to evolve, the SEC’s actions and decisions will undoubtedly have a significant impact. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
