Mark Cuban Calls for SEC Chairman Gary Gensler to be Fired
Mark Cuban, the billionaire entrepreneur and owner of the Dallas Mavericks, is making headlines once again, this time for calling on President Joe Biden to fire Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Gary Gensler. Cuban reportedly hosted a meeting in Washington, D.C., with a senior advisor to President Biden and cryptocurrency leaders to discuss regulations and the SEC’s insistence that crypto exchanges register with the regulatory body as a trading platform.
During the meeting, Cuban was quoted by Fox Business as saying, “You all have permission to quote me saying that Biden should fire Gary Gensler.” He later confirmed this statement to Fortune, adding, “He is the problem.”
Cuban has been vocal in his criticism of Gensler, stating to the Dallas Morning News that he believes Gensler has not protected investors in the crypto space and has made it difficult for crypto companies to operate by using a litigate-to-regulate approach.
This is not the first time Cuban has spoken out against Gensler, as he previously took to social media to express his concerns about the SEC chairman’s stance on crypto regulation. Cuban, a long-time crypto supporter and Biden backer, owns various cryptocurrencies in his portfolio and even had the Mavericks accept Dogecoin as payment in 2021.
With Cuban’s strong stance against Gensler and his influence in the crypto community, this call for Gensler’s removal is sure to spark further debate and discussion within the industry. The SEC has yet to respond to requests for comment on the matter.
